About Half Caste
Inspired by the original Cook Island designs of my brother, BJ Morgan, Half Caste uses BJ’s unique tattoo design as the first in a range of mainstream Pacific Island streetwear. In our multicultural motherland that is Aotearoa, many cultures are already well represented in the fashion industry and on our streets, but I believed there was ill representation in the mainstream market from Pacific Island and Greek culture that have made invaluable contributions to global designs.
The Greek motivation comes from the desire to incorporate all facets of our family into the Half Caste vision — and you can’t get much more Greek than Ziogas! Primarily by my brother but also by my son, husband, family and very special friends, have I been inspired and motivated to turn my vision into a reality.
My experience in secondary schools as a P.E and English Teacher as well as being a competitive sportswoman; coach and representing Wellington in Touch & Basketball, has given me a leading insight into fashionable teamwear apparel. This was the inspiration behind breaking into the teamwear field. I was fortunate enough to play sport with my talented brother and competed at the same NZ tournament for Touch earlier this year. Sport was always and will continue to be for me, a driving force, having come from a strong sporting family who continue to be a real presence in the Wellington and Manawatu sporting regions.
Half Caste Limited has also associated itself with Skylight Trust — an organisation helping children and young people deal with change, loss & grief. This was done to create something constructive from a situation that is has been devastating.
$1 from every Half Caste streetwear product sold, will go to Skylight and hopefully provide young people who have to face life-changing events, the support they need to get through it.
Life can throw you some incredible curve balls, ones that come completely from left field and knock you for six. I guess your true show of character comes when you either let yourself be hit or you choose to catch that curve ball running. We’ve chosen to take it with both hands.
